SSP Ferozepur Failed To Discharge His Duties In Ensuring Security Of PM During His Punjab Visit – SC

The Supreme Court remarked that Harmandeep Singh Hans, the SSP for Punjab, had failed to carry out his responsibilities in guaranteeing the security of the Prime Minister during his visit to Punjab in January 2022, according to the committee that the Supreme Court had established. The bench led by Chief Justice of India N.V. Ramana heard the petition, which demanded an inquiry into the security failure during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Punjab in January 2022.
During the hearings, CJI Ramana read from the committee’s findings, which said that Harmandeep Singh Hans, Punjab’s SSP for Ferozpur, had neglected to carry out his responsibilities and enlarge the route despite having the time and resources on hand to do so. According to the investigation, the SSP disregarded orders before to the PM’s entrance despite having been given clear direction. A committee should be established to conduct recurring reviews of the “Blue Book,” according to the committee report.
The Committee has turned in its Report under a sealed cover . The courtroom unsealed the sealed cover, and read out some of the report’s recommendations. The Report was then re-sealed and preserved in the safe custody of this Court’s Secretary General, who will make it available as and when the Court requests.
And instruct the Registry to forward copies of the Report to the Central and State Governments for follow-up action.
The Court noted that there is also a greater need to develop fresh strategies that could prevent such oversights from happening again in the future.
