In a significant development, the High Court of Punjab and Haryana has quashed the FIR and all consequent proceedings against the television serial “Ram Siya Ke Luv Kush” in relation to the alleged portrayal of Bhagwan Valmiki. The court rendered its decision on July 5, 2023, providing relief to the petitioners who sought to challenge the FIR registered against them.

The Hon’ble Mr. Justice Deepak Gupta, presiding over the case, stated in the judgment, The impugned orders suspending the exhibition of the TV serial ‘Ram Siya Ke Luv Kush’ have no basis and are hereby quashed.” The court took into account the previous order issued on October 17, 2019, which had formed a committee to address the grievances and suggest corrective measures for the TV serial.

The committee, comprising representatives of the Valmiki Samaj and other stakeholders, had recommended certain steps to be taken by the producers of the TV serial. The petitioners, in compliance with the committee’s recommendations, had implemented corrective measures for the previous episodes and provided an undertaking to adhere to the guidelines for future telecasts.

The court highlighted the resolution reached between the stakeholders, stating that the undertaking provided by the petitioners had been accepted by the committee. The complainant, respondent No. 2, also expressed no objection to quashing the FIR, further strengthening the court’s decision.

This judgment brings a conclusion to the legal battle surrounding the television serial and provides clarity on the portrayal of Bhagwan Valmiki. It underscores the importance of considering stakeholder dialogue and adherence to guidelines to address any concerns raised by communities.

The quashing of the FIR and proceedings marks a significant relief for the petitioners and serves as a reminder of the judiciary’s role in ensuring a fair and balanced interpretation of laws. The judgment sets a precedent for future cases involving similar controversies, emphasizing the need for open communication and respectful representation in the media.
