The Kerala High Court addressed the issue of the mandatory dress code for advocates in light of the unprecedented summer heat, following a request by the Kerala High Court Advocates’ Association. The court resolved to relax the dress code temporarily, recognizing the discomfort caused by high temperatures.

Resolution Details: Explaining the resolution, the judgment states, “It is resolved that advocates appearing in the District Judiciary may wear a white shirt with band, making the use of a black coat and gown optional. For High Court appearances, the gown will be optional.”

Duration and Applicability: The court emphasized, “These directions shall be in force with effect from the date of publication of this notice till May 31, 2024.”
