D.D: 21 JUNE 2022

Recently, the Kerala High Court rejected a petition requesting the establishment of a two-judge bench of the Supreme Court in all High Courts to hear cases involving the destitute and the poor.

According to Chief Justice S Manikumar and Shaji P Chaly, they were not inclined to grant the requested reliefs because the petitioner had made serious allegations against the judiciary.

In his petition, the petitioner alleged that in his case, the judges were in cahoots with criminals and were able to secure positions after retirement.

The petitioner also requested that the court instruct the Centre to raise the retirement age of High Court and Supreme Court judges to 75 years and to prohibit all judicial officers from accepting government positions after retirement.

According to the petitioner who appeared as a party-in-person, if these steps are taken, it will be possible to ensure that the judiciary is not influenced, thereby restoring people’s faith in the Indian Judiciary.

Nonetheless, after hearing the arguments, the bench remained unconvinced and proceeded to reject the present appeal.
